Our BRAND NEW Personality Disorder Treatment Unit in Epsom.
Treatment and care will be delivered in two 5 bedded units within a detached house in a residential area unremarkable except for the standard of service delivered.
We aim to help males and females in single gender units tackle their symptoms, and prosper with their lives by taking a holistic treatment approach. Typically Services Users will exhibit symptoms such as:-
- Mood swings
- Self harm
- Damaging behaviour in some of the following areas: spending, sex,
drug/alcohol misuse, binge eating, high risk behaviours. - Family damaging conflict ridden, often violent relationships
The therapy programme will focus on reinforcing appropriate behaviours, by setting targets and goals, Service Users progress will be monitored and evaluated on a periodic timescale utilising the Care Programme Approach.
Service Users will be offered relaxation, drama, art and music therapy.
Schema Therapy will be available. Utilising the principles of attachment theories. Service Users will have the building blocks that they may have missed as children, built into their presentation by reinforcing the principles of basic safety, care, guidance and affection. The therapy will aim to work with Services Users to fill the void that has been created in their emotional presentation. Schema’s will begin to develop which will ameliorate the consequences of unhealthy/unstable relationships, poor social skills, unhealthy lifestyle choices, self destruction destructiveness, and overall poor functionality.
By building caring bonds and enforcing self analysis Schema Therapy helps a person gain the self constinence they need in order to achieve their ultimate goals.
The Therapeutic approach on the unit will help to create a peaceful environment in order to help Service User’s feel comfortable during discussion groups and sessions.
The treatment phase at Aston Lodge will last between 6-9 months, and the specialist DBT programme will be delivered by Psychologists and Nurses.
The Service Users will have an assigned DBT skills therapist working with them throughout the treatment phase.
The pre-discharge phase lasts for 2-3 months and is aimed at sustaining the skills and functioning achieved in order to assist Service User’s to manage issues to sustain their recovery. It is followed by a CPA discharge meeting which outlines future care at the point of discharge.
