Autism
The new autism unit is a residential post-16 provision for young people
on the Autism Spectrum.
Our aim is to enable students with specific learning difficulties and
sometimes
challenging behaviour to develop academic, social and independent
skills.
A targeted approach using AS friendly strategies focuses on therapy support,
appropriate educational and practical skills programme. Courses and
activities
will include access to college, basic skills, social skills,
travel training, community awareness, essential living skills and work
experience.
The new autism unit will open in spring 2010.

Student's Profile
- Primary diagnosis of ASD, often with co-morbid conditions
- Complex needs
- Presentation or history of challenging behaviour
- Age 16+
