A new Hospital Director for The Ashwood Centre, secure mental health unit in London

A new Hospital Director was appointed for the Ashwood Centre, a London based mental health and learning disability unit for patients sectioned under the Mental Health Act, requiring secure settings.

Gerhard studied and qualified as Clinical Psychologist in South Africa, managed a private practice for a while before coming to the UK in 1993 to work for an NHS Trust in the Midlands. After 6 years of working in various community mental health teams with a wide spectrum of learning disabilities and mental illness, Gerhard moved to the independent sector and spent 7 years working as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in different services at St Andrews Health Care. During this time he completed a degree in Forensic Psychology, supplied assessment reports for the Courts as Expert Witness and managed a psychology service for prisoners in a category B prison. In the last 3 years, Gerhard had been employed by a private mental health provider as Head of Psychology/Clinical Director/Acting Hospital Director for for an 80 bed secure hospital for mental illness and learning disabilities.
